Last night, we went to Circo Arlequin - a traveling circus that settled itself right behind the complex. They had the most hilarious clowns I had seen! It was slapstick comedy at its best - with a little bawdiness thrown in. In one routine, three clowns were onstage. One kept attempting to play a harmonica, the other - dressed as a cop - attempted to keep order while a
third kept on squeezing an air horn to interrupt the attempted harmonica concert. Everytime the harmonica player would try to play, the other would squeeze a loud "HONK-HONK" from his horn. But the funniest part was that he would sneak up from behind shove the horn in between the harmonica-player's legs so it was strategically placed right when he squeezed it. Then there was a whole bit on farting noises that just went on and on.
Another gag had one clown giving out cookies from an opaque plastic bag. This went on for a few minutes as he gave out cookies to the audience. At the end of it, he announced that he had run out. At that point, another clown took ahold of the bag and pulled out a container from inside - a bedpan with a gigantic turd inside of it!
We've been to other circuses here where - to the circus' credit - we were just about the only audience they performed in front of. One circus had some really sad-looking animals barely doing any tricks. Another time, two young men - one was a mid-teen and the other was barely a teen - rode their respective motorcycles inside one of those "cages of death." They rode
their bikes into 360 degree circles. It was impressive. However, right after they did their rides, the announcer came on saying something quite lengthy in Spanish and the two daredevils went into the audience with helmets in hand to ask for donations.
Last night's circus was pretty fun. Not too many animals - just some sad looking miniature horses doing some sad tricks. Otherwise, it was the usual cornucopia of clowns, acrobats and contortionists.
