We still don't have email - much less a computer - at home. Still waiting on our air shipment, but we're making do.
We're still suffering from some jet-lag, but getting over it little by little. For the first few days, both kids were getting up at around 5 or 6 AM, going full speed until dinner time. While eating, Justo would pathetically say "I...don't...feel...good..." and not want to eat. He ended up passing out on the couch a couple of times literally within seconds of lying down.
Sonia's finally getting over her sinus infection, which started as a persistent cold in San Jose. Saturday was spent just hanging out. We went to the community "sports club" on Saturday. While very adequate in terms of facilities (3 pools, tennis courts, workout rooms, ballet classes, etc.), you won't confuse it with a Club Med. The architecture is what I call 70s provincial Asian resort - lots of concrete and tile. Nevertheless, it's really very convenient, being just a couple of blocks away. There's also a little snack bar onsite. The kids had great fun swimming, and had even more fun when it started pouring rain. It's warm enough that they just played in the rain.
On Sunday, we headed downtown to go to mass at the cathedral. It's billed as an English mass, but it's really bilingual, with the majority of it in Vietnamese. Just the readings and the homily are in English. Afterwards, we explored downtown for a bit, and also had some lunch.
Downtown Saigon is similar to Bangkok and Manila. Lots of very cool and hip restaurants, street vendors, hole-in-the-wall shops and restaurants and a number of large, luxurious hotels (the newest one being the Park Hyatt, right behind Saigon's main theater). We're getting around by taxi for now.
Today is the kids' first day at school. Yesterday was orientation day. Justo's teacher is French, while Luna's teacher is Australian. The classes are about as international as you can get - in Justo's class, or the ones that I could identify, there were kids from Sweden, Denmark, the US, Korea and India.
The weather's been very rainy. It's probably been mostly in the 80s since it's been cloudy.
Gotta go. That's the latest for now!
